A screen lowers vertical fabric in front of a window or along the side of a pergola. Start with the problem: sunlight, glare or overlooking. Fabric openness alone cannot guarantee thermal comfort, privacy or the wind resistance of the installation.
Describe the opening and use
Provide measurements, orientation, photos, window or pergola type and troublesome hours. Identify passages, opening leaves, handles and maintenance access. Both screens and adjustable external venetian blinds can serve windows: compare fabric and tilting slats rather than assigning one system exclusively to pergolas.
Read fabric characteristics
Request the reference, colour and a sample. Mermet separates openness, light transmission, night privacy and the solar performance of fabric combined with glazing. Low openness does not mean nearly all heat is blocked. For windows, request data matching the glazing and blind position; a fabric-plus-glass value does not describe an open pergola by itself.
Check views and privacy
Inspect the sample in relevant lighting, including an illuminated room at night. Outward views and protection from overlooking cannot be inferred from one percentage. If darkness matters, also ask about light around the edges: blackout fabric does not guarantee a fully blacked-out opening.
Check guides and weather limits
