Quote: timber carport
E.g.: wooden carport with an attached storage space

A timber carport depends on siting and design as much as timber species. You need room to park, open doors and maintain connections. Define the roof and any storage before comparing a kit with a bespoke frame.
Plan actual use
State vehicle dimensions with doors and boot open, street access, route to the house and future uses. Check braces and post positions on the drawing, not just the roof footprint. For storage, describe doors, ventilation, contents and remaining parking space.
Choose timber for each part
Request species, structural grade, solid or engineered product and durability justification. Bois de France distinguishes natural or treatment-conferred suitability by use conditions. A use class is not an aesthetic ranking and does not require identical treatment for every part. Do not prescribe class 4 pressure treatment or fungicide and insecticide for every carport.
Design to limit moisture
Ask about post feet, end grain, joints and roof runoff. The COBEI overview emphasises draining and ventilated connections. Integrate these details with structural resistance; a stain does not replace design that avoids trapped water.
Coordinate roof and ground
Define covering, loads and exposure with the designer, then foundations and anchors for the site. Sheet metal is roofing, not a replacement for the whole frame. Existing paving is not automatically a verified foundation. Allow for future walls or solar panels before adding them.
Plan care and formalities
Request care matching exposure and finish, with access to feet, joints and gutters. Distinguish appearance maintenance from timber preservation, without universal two-to-four-year intervals. Confirm siting and formalities with the municipality; timber, kit supply or removability does not decide the rules alone.

On quotation
Separate frame, roofing, supports, drainage and finish in the quote. Specify species, timber product and suitability for exposure. Neither a square-metre price nor treated timber alone describes the service.
Subsidies and grants
No grant is deducted from the budget shown here. If a quote mentions support, request the exact scheme and confirmation of your eligibility before including it in financing.
Frequently asked questions
Must all timber be treated for use class 4?
No. Have each product's suitability justified for its use conditions.
Does stain solve moisture problems?
No. Drainage, joint details and exposure also matter.
Must the finish be renewed every two years?
Follow the system and observed condition, not a universal interval.
Can storage be added later?
Have loads, siting, access and formalities checked before alteration.
