Stairlift, platform or lift: compare the actual journey
Published on 31 July 2026 · Verified on 18 September 2026 · The Mestravaux.lu team
Start with the journeys you need to make possible, then compare equipment that can serve them in the home. A stairlift seat, platform and lift require different movements and layouts. Check the choice with the person, their mobility equipment and the building.
The essentials in 30 seconds
- Distinguish riding on a seat from travelling in a wheelchair.
- Check model dimensions, load, access and controls.
- Compare work, use and aftercare without an automatic price ranking.

Seated stairlift: assess boarding and transfer
The person uses the equipment’s seat. Assess approach, boarding, support, controls and exit at each landing. Stannah examples distinguish straight and curved configurations and folded or open space. Rail width alone does not establish feasibility.
| Solution | Prix indicatif | Travaux | Délai | Cas d'usage type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Platform: check the actual wheelchair
A wheelchair platform must suit its dimensions, combined load and entry/exit route. Aritco’s FAQ distinguishes compatible wheelchairs by configuration. Request manoeuvres and space for an assistant if needed on a plan, rather than relying on an accessibility label.
Home lift: do not assume a universal cabin
Some home lifts accommodate a wheelchair, as documented for Stannah’s S3. This does not make every private lift suitable for every wheelchair. Check passage, interior space, travel height, stops and controls for the proposed model.
Put building constraints on the plan
Identify footprint, support, any floor opening or shaft, landing access and power for each option. Assume neither that a seat never needs building work nor that all lifts need the same shaft. For shared spaces, assess permissions and other users’ circulation.

Request a quoteCompare a complete project, not a catalogue price
Separate equipment, preparatory works, installation, acceptance and aftercare. Ask about maintenance, inspections, assistance terms and parts availability. No general price range or delivery period is stated without dated comparable local offers.
Assess needs before committing
AEC’s stairlift route includes a home visit to assess need and review quotations. When applying to long-term care insurance, follow its procedure before ordering. This does not promise funding for any chosen device.
Frequently asked questions
Does using a wheelchair rule out a home lift?
No. Check a compatible configuration; some models are designed for this use.
Does every platform fit every wheelchair?
No. Verify dimensions, load, manoeuvres and access with the actual wheelchair.
Is a stairlift always cheapest?
Compare complete proposals meeting the same need. No fixed cost ranking is established here.
Can I choose only by the number of floors?
No. Include use, mobility equipment, access and model limits.
