Check possibilities before design
Luxembourg City lists extensions as requiring building permission. Confirm footprint, height, boundaries, documents and additional opinions with your municipality. Small area does not automatically allow a simple notification.
Assess the junction
Have foundations, walls to be opened, floor levels and roof connections assessed. Request insulation, airtightness and water-management details. Matching existing insulation thickness is not a complete solution.
Define services
Specify heating, ventilation, sockets, lighting and any water supply or drainage. Check existing network capacity and suitability. A new kitchen and storage room require different services; area alone cannot compare their costs.
Plan work near occupants
Ask about building the extension before opening the house, restricted areas, protection and service shutdowns. Remaining at home must be confirmed against works and access. Plan alternatives if kitchen, bathrooms or routes are unavailable.
