Cost: brick façade repointing
Compare matching removal and filling scope with the same joint finish. Include access, trials, cleaning and any brick replacement. Façade area alone does not describe joint quantity or difficulty.
Editorial update on 18 September 2026

Define quantities and areas
Request measurement rules, walls and extent. Separate isolated joints, whole areas and brick replacement. Partial work is not automatically more or less costly per area.
Describe preparation and finish
Record trial, removal, cleaning, mortar, profile and interfaces. Check protection and conditions. Repointing alone is not an adequate comparison description.
Separate associated work
Identify sill repair, drainage, support cracks, access and waste. Agree extras and approval after opening. Do not assume full-wall waterproofing is included unless described.

Frequently asked questions
Should every open joint be filled?
No. Some drain water; have their function identified.
Do indoor marks prove defective joints?
They justify investigation, not a conclusion about one source.
Can joint colour change?
Approve a sample and check any procedures for building appearance.
Does repointing fix spalling bricks?
Assess bricks separately; new mortar does not automatically repair them.
Should water repellent follow?
Only where benefit and compatibility are established.
