Cost: ground-source heat pump
Separate design and procedures, ground collection, heat pump, connections and reinstatement. A drilling metre rate without ground assumptions and scope does not make projects comparable. Request cost before support and contractual handling of unexpected conditions.

Define collection scope
For drilling, separate mobilisation, planned lengths, probes, grouting, connections, tests and material disposal. For horizontal collectors, specify excavation, network, manifold and reinstatement. Avoid double counting groundworks.
Set contingency terms before signing
Request adjustment rules for changed depth, method or location, approval procedure and stopping costs. Allocate extra studies and coordination. Fixed pricing must not conceal unspecified ground exclusions.
Compare the whole system over one period
Add heat pump, hydraulics, hot water, electrics, commissioning, follow-up and consumption. Compare a feasible alternative with equal demand and tariffs. Assume neither invented income-based support categories nor uniform VAT; request justification per item.

Indicative scenarios
No grant is deducted from the budget shown here. If a quote mentions support, request the exact scheme and confirmation of your eligibility before including it in financing.
Frequently asked questions
Can a small plot always accommodate drilling?
No. Assess access, geology, distances and admissibility; small final footprint does not prove construction feasibility.
Is municipal permission enough?
Address the drilling water permit with AGE alongside other applicable procedures.
Can depth be set by house size alone?
No. Request site-specific justification of collection and thermal demand.
Does efficiency stay the same all year?
No. Source and heating temperatures and system operation affect it.
Can the garden be changed freely later?
Obtain drawings and system-specific restrictions before choosing planting, buildings or surfacing.
