Quote: privacy screen and planting
E.g.: wooden slat screen, privacy panels

Photograph overlooking from the places you use: dining table, glazed doors or seating area. State whether you need summer or year-round privacy and whether the result must be immediate. A local screen beside a patio serves a different scope from fencing the whole boundary. Have the sightlines marked before choosing materials.
Define the visual result
Mark intrusive views and the space you can allocate. Ask for front and angled views of open slats. Consider daylight, circulation and maintenance access. Confirm local height and positioning rules before ordering.
Check existing supports
Betafence notes that screening increases wind loading. An existing mesh fence is therefore not automatically suitable. Have panels, posts, fixings and foundations assessed together for the site, even if the fabric or reed screen seems light.
Choose plants for their future space
RHS identifies soil, ultimate size and ability to maintain planting as screening selection factors. Have a garden-specific selection prepared; its British plant list is not a prescription for Luxembourg.
Plan transition and growth
Where temporary screens and planting are combined, show space for growth and maintenance on the plan. Specify appearance at planting, seasonal expectations and follow-up without promising a fixed date of complete coverage. Plan removal or replacement of temporary screens. Identify the intended support for climbers.

On quotation
Compare the same protected area, height and intended result. Distinguish screening attached to a checked support, independent panels with their own supports and planting. Materials, installation and care differ; a rate per metre alone cannot compare the privacy achieved or the follow-up needed.
Subsidies and grants
No grant is deducted from the budget shown here. If a quote mentions support, request the exact scheme and confirmation of your eligibility before including it in financing.
Frequently asked questions
Must I screen the entire garden?
Start with intrusive sightlines and compare targeted screening with a continuous boundary.
Can I attach reeds to my mesh fence?
First have support and fixings checked for the proposed screen and exposure.
Will a hedge provide winter privacy?
Ask about the proposed species’ seasonal behaviour and delivery appearance rather than assuming permanent coverage.
Can plants and panels be combined?
Plan plant space, maintenance access and the eventual use of panels together.
