Metal staircase budget: define the complete installation

Provide finished floor-to-floor height, opening, access and photographs. Have starts, landings, exits, clear passage and headroom assessed. A compact spiral does not prove suitability for furniture transport or every user. Diameter alone does not establish comfort.

Fontanot lists kit stairs in several forms. It is therefore incorrect to assume every staircase must be a unique fabrication. Clarify adjustment limits, included components and survey responsibility; an available kit is not automatically suitable for your building.

Request material and finish for stringers or central support, treads, risers, landings, handrails and guarding. Separate upper opening protection from flight guarding. Describe noise, care and water-exposure expectations and ask how they are addressed. No fixed metal-wood-glass percentage is justified here.

Price design, bearings, possible foundations, opening alterations, removal, temporary protection, lifting, transport and connections. Identify who repairs floors and walls. Supply-only prices are not installed prices. Site access can affect equipment and organisation; ask for the assumptions.

ITM-SST 1502.5 covers escape stairs within its medium-height building scope. It does not make every external stair an escape route. Establish function and applicable requirements before pricing; no universal width is given here.

Request totals including taxes, separate options, payment stages and a programme tied to survey, design, supply and installation. Outdoors, specify metal protection, drainage, walking surfaces and care for the chosen system. Do not assume all materials need galvanising or will never need repairs. Agree checks, reservations and handover documents.
