Specify profiles, cassettes or open screening. Request the actual element composition and fixing system. A decorative skin alone does not define wall protection, insulation or safety requirements.
Identify the complete material
Specify sheet, extruded profile or composite panel with aluminium faces, including references and composition. Do not infer composite-panel performance from its metal skin alone. Request system evidence for building requirements, including fire performance.
Approve layout before fabrication
Request dimensions, joints, corners, openings and connections. Agree a finish sample and viewing conditions for flatness and appearance. Identify who measures finally and handles site adaptations.
Allow thermal movement
PREFA describes fixed points, sliding points and movement joints for Siding profiles. Specify your chosen system’s provisions. Values for that range are not universal rules for every aluminium cassette or profile.
Check support and interfaces
Request substrate assessment and anchor design, including over existing insulation. Specify drainage, ventilation, material contacts and window and roof junctions. Existing insulation does not establish that the new subframe can be attached without assessment.
Define additional functions separately
If serving as shading, screening or a feature near a balustrade, define those functions separately. A decorative panel does not automatically provide fall protection. For acoustic requirements, request assembly performance rather than general silence claims.
Plan upkeep and repair
PREFA recommends regular façade inspection, particularly after severe weather. Request instructions for the actual finish and methods for repair or replacement. A commercial warranty proves neither no upkeep nor a longer lifespan than every other material.
