Composite does not describe one product. Request composition, exact references, façade use and installation instructions. Then define assembly, connections and upkeep instead of starting from a general maintenance-free claim.
Identify the range and permitted use
Request technical data, composition, profile, finish and façade application conditions. Do not replace cladding with decking simply because both are composite. Check building requirements, including fire performance, for the actual assembly.
Allow movement
Silvadec’s Atmosphère 175 instructions describe thermal expansion and specific installation provisions. Define gaps and fixings for your range without copying those dimensions onto another product. Composite does not mean absence of dimensional change.
Define structure and details
Request substrate checks, subframe, planned ventilation, junctions and openings. Identify permitted visible or concealed fixings. Not every range uses the same clips; open joints require defined protection behind them.
Assess colour and warranty
Request samples, appearance tolerances, exposure conditions and warranty wording. Distinguish cover for a particular defect from colour stability or replacement including labour. A commercial warranty period is not a demonstrated lifespan.
Plan suitable upkeep
Silvadec’s open-jointed cladding instructions require regular cleaning and restrict cleaning products. Request instructions for the installed range and suitable access. No finish treatment does not mean no maintenance.
Check replacement and end of life
Ask how individual boards can be replaced and matched. For recyclability claims, request an accessible collection route and acceptance conditions. Theoretical recyclability does not establish disposal in ordinary local collection.
