A damp façade does not automatically need water repellent. Describe marks, location and their relationship with rainfall. Establish whether facing absorption or another defect is responsible before requesting whole-surface treatment.
Check purpose and limits
Buildwise describes benefits against rain absorption but warns that high salt content can lead to worsened damage. Check suitability. Treatment does not replace investigation of a leak, faulty connection or another moisture source.
Identify the product
Request reference, accepted substrates and function: impregnation, coloured coating or paint. These are different services. Check relevant wall and coating properties rather than relying on the word breathable.
Use a representative trial
Remmers specifies suitability and effectiveness trials for OFS, including previously treated surfaces. Request a trial appropriate to your product and substrate, checking appearance after drying. Colourless does not universally guarantee no visual change.
Separate preparation
Specify necessary cleaning, joint or crack repairs and substrate conditions before application. Do not automatically order high pressure or abrasive blasting. Instructions and assessment should guide preparation and waiting time after cleaning.
Plan verification and upkeep
Ask what result will be checked, by which method and after which system-specific interval. Retain photographs, references and treated areas. Beading alone does not describe every wall property; do not schedule fixed reapplication without assessment.
Allow future work
Mention planned paint, render or insulation and confirm compatibility. Water repellent is neither mandatory after every renovation nor a guarantee against all biological growth.
