Identify format and finish
Request reference, format, thickness, texture and colour construction. Do not assume all fibre cement is through-coloured. Check cut-edge and touch-up instructions for the exact product.
Request performance evidence
Cedral’s FAQ states a fire classification for its boards. That does not automatically classify every fibre-cement façade. Request product and system evidence; distinguish material reaction to fire from assembly fire resistance.
Prepare installation and junctions
Specify subframe, permitted fixings, joints, planned ventilation and openings. Clarify handling, cutting and dust control. Hidden fixings or interlocking profiles do not alone ensure faster installation or freedom from water ingress.
Identify older cladding first
ITM describes identifying presumed asbestos materials before work in premises built before 3 April 2001, with investigation where information is missing. Appearance or an approximate 1990s date does not prove absence. Arrange checks before drilling, cutting or removal.
Plan cleaning and appearance changes
Cedral calls for suitable cleaning and warns that aggressive products or high pressure can damage the finish. Request range-specific instructions. Surface-painted boards do not automatically require replacement instead of repainting; assess compatible renovation options.
Plan future repair
Ask about removal without neighbouring damage, spare parts and accepted touch-ups. Retain references and warranties. Distinguish lifespan claims, product cover and included labour.
