This service concerns finishes on existing exterior timber: exposed beams, balustrades, structures and decorative elements. For cladding, limit this request to finishing; board replacement and façade repair are different scopes. Deck surfaces subject to foot traffic also need a specifically suitable system.
Record timber and exposure
List elements, dimensions, faces, sheltered areas, rain exposure and previous products. Photograph ends, joints and defects. A beam is not just its visible front: identify sides, underside and inaccessible areas. State known timber species rather than inferring it from a stain colour.
Check construction before appearance
Report trapped water, soft wood, moving joints and deteriorated fixings. CODIFAB's COBEI presentation stresses draining and ventilated connections. A new coating fixes neither water retention nor lost strength. Establish necessary repairs before commissioning decorative work.
Choose a compatible system
Specify visible grain, opaque colour or retained acceptable weathering. Check product use for each element and old finish.
