Quote: ground-coupled ventilation heat exchanger
E.g.: earth-air heat exchanger paired with dual-flow MVHR to pre-heat fresh air

Start with a ground and ventilation assessment. Describe available area, known buried services, planned landscaping and winter or summer objectives. Compare ventilation alone before choosing a buried circuit.
Identify the technology
Distinguish air passing underground from a closed fluid loop serving a heat exchanger. CRIIRAD describes both approaches; they do not share the same buried air path.
Check ground and works
Survey services, excavation constraints, groundwater and access to buried elements. Justify layout, length, depth and airflow through design. A standard length is not sizing.
Address sealing and condensate
CRIIRAD documents radon entering through leaks. The CCTB addresses condensate drainage separately. Request a verifiable arrangement without uncontrolled soil communication and post-installation checks.
Assess additional benefit
Request seasonal comparison with ventilation alone, including fans, any pump, pressure losses and maintenance. Explain bypass operation and interaction with heat recovery. Tempered air does not guarantee room temperature.
Plan operation in the quotation
Specify inspection and cleaning access, alerts and action for stagnant water, odours or abnormal measurements. Request an as-built plan and limits of permitted user tasks.

On quotation
Separate design, excavation, circuit, intake, condensate, controls, connection and reinstatement. Include auxiliary electricity and maintenance. No local average, standard depth or guaranteed payback is stated; the system does not automatically replace heating or cooling.
Subsidies and grants
No grant is deducted from the budget shown here. If a quote mentions support, request the exact scheme and confirmation of your eligibility before including it in financing.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without electricity?
Request the complete balance: fans and any pump can consume electricity.
Does it replace air conditioning?
Results depend on building and climate. Compare expected comfort without promising a fixed temperature.
Is garden area enough for sizing?
No: assess ground, layout, airflow and expected exchange.
Is condensate drainage optional?
It must be designed with system hygiene and sealing; it is not a cosmetic extra.
