Energy grants in Luxembourg: identify the scheme and prepare the application

Klimabonus 2026 distinguishes the energy-advice route from the route limited to one envelope component. Both require approval in principle before work. Submission is not approval. Confirm the regime for applications begun before 2026.

Technical installations have their own criteria. Supported PV self-consumption under the 2026 regime requires waiving regulated feed-in remuneration; surplus sales at market rates remain possible. A battery added to an existing installation uses the standard route without pre-financing.

Topup supplements an awarded Klimabonus grant subject to household conditions including income and composition. Apply to the Guichet unique des aides au logement within two years of the Klimabonus decision. It cannot be combined with the standard improvement grant. It is not a universal A, B or C income category for all energy support.

The housing VAT scheme applies 3 % to eligible work subject to its conditions. For direct application, the company seeks AED approval before carrying out the work. However, supplying and installing solar panels on private dwellings is directly subject to 3 %, outside the housing VAT concession. Klimabonus eligibility is not VAT approval; ask for the rate on each item and the price without the concession.

In 2026, PV has a route involving a registered installer, mandate and deduction from the final invoice. The wider Klimabonus pre-financing announced for 1 January 2027 must not be presented as already available for all work. Check the project’s conditions and timing.

Municipal support varies; there is no universal percentage. Ask the municipality and use the Klima-Agence calculator to identify possibilities. Check each scheme’s rules, deadline and combination conditions. Allow for deposits and final payments before expected grant receipts.

Retain dated quotes, selected specifications, decisions, invoices and payment evidence. If the design changes, notify the assessing body before assuming approval remains valid. Agree who supplies closing documents and what is required; an oral funding promise does not replace these records.
