Quote: floor levelling before installation
E.g.: self-levelling before laying vinyl or wood flooring

Levelling compound prepares a surface for flooring within the selected system’s limits. It does not automatically stabilise a moving floor or repair every crack. Describe existing layers, levels and the final finish instead of requesting only a fibre-reinforced product.
Assess before selecting the compound
Record hollows, high spots, cracks, soundness, moisture and old layers. Identify floor movement and embedded heating. Assessment should establish whether levelling is suitable or another repair is needed. Area alone does not determine thickness.
Do not oppose self-levelling and fibre-reinforced
A product can have both characteristics, as documented for Sikafloor-201 FiberLevel. They describe different properties rather than exclusive options. Ask for permitted substrates, thicknesses, coverings and moisture conditions. Fibres do not guarantee elimination of cracks.
Prepare the substrate and retain movement joints
Sika requires preparation, appropriate repairs and continuation of movement joints; fibres do not allow them to be freely covered. Buildwise likewise notes carrying existing movement joints through resilient finishes. Identify their path before application and through to the finished floor.
Clarify work on existing layers
Retained tiles, timber and mineral substrates do not automatically need identical preparation. Specify adhesion, stability, intended primer and repairs. Before sanding or removing old materials, clarify asbestos assessment; ITM highlights premises built before 3 April 2001. Appearance alone is insufficient to choose mechanical preparation.
Separate walking from covering
Sika distinguishes covering conditions by product, thickness, finish and environment, with compatible moisture requirements. Ask when the next installer can proceed and on what evidence. A walkable surface is not necessarily ready for bonded wood or vinyl.

On quotation
Area, actual required thickness and preliminary work determine the cost. Compare quotes stating accepted substrate, product, preparation and checks. A thin layer over sound material and rehabilitation of a damaged floor are different scopes.
Subsidies and grants
No grant is deducted from the budget shown here. If a quote mentions support, request the exact scheme and confirmation of your eligibility before including it in financing.
Frequently asked questions
Can fibres allow a movement joint to be covered?
Not by definition. Its function and the system determine treatment, not simply the presence of fibres.
Can existing tiles be levelled over?
If assessment and product applications support it, with the required preparation. Primer alone does not establish suitability.
Is there a universal maximum thickness?
No. Check the actual product and system; the levelling category does not set one limit.
Does levelling replace screed?
Function and permitted application determine the choice, not an arbitrary boundary between millimetres and centimetres.
Can I prepare the floor myself?
First agree expected condition, checks and responsibility with the installer, and clarify old materials before intervention.
