Quote: solid or engineered wood flooring installation
E.g.: installing solid oak flooring, herringbone pattern

Select the flooring product and its installation together. Solid or engineered describes board construction, not automatically fixing method, permitted use or future renovation count. The visit should connect your design choice with actual substrate condition.
Specify more than timber species
Define reference, construction, dimensions, appearance and factory or on-site finish. Request a sample and permitted variation. Kährs distinguishes sandable multilayer constructions from thin non-sandable veneers; appearance or total thickness alone cannot promise several renovations.
Choose an approved installation method
Have bonding, floating or mechanical fixing justified for product and substrate. Nailing is not inherently restricted to listed buildings but needs a suitable assembly. Specify preparation, intermediate layers, fixing and final height. Underlay does not replace all flatness corrections.
Coordinate storage and other work
Request delivery, storage and acclimatisation conditions for the selected product. The consulted Hørning guide, for example, requires closed packaging; opening every pack days ahead is not a universal instruction. Ensure moisture-producing work and site conditions are compatible with installation.
Check underfloor heating
Engineered flooring is not unconditionally compatible with every heating system. Buildwise identifies substrate moisture, protocol and materials. Validate the actual flooring, installation and associated layers against the heating, then agree restart instructions.
Approve layout and inspect completion
Agree direction, pattern, cuts, room transitions and edges before installation. Inspect appearance and finishing against the agreed scope and record outstanding items. Obtain instructions for walking, furniture, cleaning and maintenance. Oil or lacquer does not make wood immune to water or scratches.

On quotation
Compare the same reference, pattern and substrate work. Separate supply, installation, on-site finishing, thresholds, skirting and adjustments. No local average is established without comparable quotations.
Subsidies and grants
No grant is deducted from the budget shown here. If a quote mentions support, request the exact scheme and confirmation of your eligibility before including it in financing.
Frequently asked questions
Does solid always mean longer-lasting?
Product, use, installation and care matter. Material alone cannot promise a lifespan.
Should packs be opened in advance?
Follow the product instructions; some manufacturers require closed packs during acclimatisation.
Can old tiles remain underneath?
After assessing condition, compatibility and levels, with the system’s required preparation.
How many sanding cycles are possible?
Construction and remaining usable wood determine that. Assess the actual floor rather than use a generic number.
Does chevron require solid wood?
Pattern and construction are separate choices. Request a product intended for the selected layout.
