Quote: indoor natural stone flooring
E.g.: marble flooring for an entrance hall, travertine for a living room

Marble, travertine and blue limestone do not form an automatic price or quality hierarchy. Identify the actual stone, origin and finish, then check room suitability. A sample helps select appearance but does not describe every variation in the delivered batch.
Identify origin and appearance
Request precise designation, quarry or documented origin and finish. Blue stone does not prove Luxembourg extraction. A Belgian producer offers origin certificates to professionals, for example. Agree acceptable variations and slab selection before installation.
Check stone properties
Buildwise discusses acid sensitivity, deformation and interactions with installation products. Request confirmation for the reference, including adhesive and joints. For heating, check stone, size and assembly; thermal inertia alone does not establish compatibility.
Prepare substrate and layout
Assess stability, moisture, levels and existing joints. Agree vein direction, junctions, cuts and thresholds. If retaining old flooring, justify the assembly and total height. Treat slip behaviour and assembly waterproofing separately in wet rooms.
Choose protection without absolute promises
Buildwise’s stain-treatment study shows limitations against very acidic substances. Water repellent does not make marble immune to lemon or vinegar. Specify treatment purpose and appearance effects. A honed finish alone also does not establish adequate wet-floor safety.
Plan care and restoration
Buildwise’s June 2026 article warns that premature protection can trap moisture and damage stone. Confirm application timing and care. Polishing and crystallisation are not suitable for every stone; request assessment and a trial before restoration.

On quotation
The supplied reference, formats, layout and substrate determine the budget. Compare these and justified treatments rather than presumed rankings between stone families.
Subsidies and grants
No grant is deducted from the budget shown here. If a quote mentions support, request the exact scheme and confirmation of your eligibility before including it in financing.
Frequently asked questions
Does water repellent protect marble from acid?
Do not assume so. Stain treatments have limits and do not remove the stone’s chemical sensitivity.
Does blue stone mean Luxembourg stone?
No. Request origin of the actual supplied product.
Is a matt finish enough in a bathroom?
No. Check slip behaviour, permitted use and waterproofing separately.
Should every stone be crystallised?
No. The method must match stone type and condition.
Is treatment needed immediately after installation?
Not automatically. Check need, compatibility and drying before application.
