Start with activities: focused work, calls, meetings, reception and storage. Identify users, equipment and floor constraints. Bespoke furniture may solve particular interfaces or storage needs; it does not automatically make a workstation ergonomic or a room quiet.
Test a workstation with users
List screens, keyboard, papers and storage. Check adjustments, legroom, chair clearance, sockets and reflections in use. INRS recommends designing around tasks and postures. Compare adjustable standard furniture too; fixed bespoke height may be unsuitable.
Separate absorption and confidentiality
INRS distinguishes sound absorption within rooms from insulation between rooms. Low screens may contribute to room treatment without isolating conversations. Define the objective and assess the floor if needed: ceiling, walls, doors, equipment and organisation all contribute.
Design storage and maintenance
Specify document loads, lockable storage and routes with doors open. Coordinate power, data, lighting and ventilation. Keep connections and equipment accessible; do not block an air outlet with a cabinet.
Include reception and building requirements
Check requirements for visitor and staff areas. Luxembourg accessibility legislation defines categories and conditions; establish the premises’ case. Coordinate fire and escape requirements before moving partitions or storage. A landlord’s aesthetic approval is not technical validation.
Prepare occupied-site work
Define temporary desks, service shutdowns, closed zones, noise and cleaning. Phasing may be feasible but cannot guarantee all activities continue. Test desks, doors, locks, connections and access at handover.
