Guarding budget: compare the quotation line by line

A handrail provides support; guarding protects an exposed edge. A wall handrail does not replace infill on an open side. Specify balcony, terrace, landing or stair, building use and existing layout. Identify applicable requirements before choosing height or infill purely for appearance.

Provide a sketch of each run, corner, return and junction. For stairs, clarify whether measurement follows the slope. Mark interruptions and wall connections. Ask for quantities and fixed costs: design, travel or site setup are not necessarily within the metre rate.

The Buildwise summary identifies static and dynamic loads in design. An impact test alone does not cover every check. Request evidence for the proposed assembly; this principle does not define a universal Luxembourg rulebook.

Have the anchoring area assessed and clarify investigations or repairs. Separate fixing work from substrate strengthening. Assign responsibility for penetrations and connections on waterproofed terraces. Include installation access and temporary protection when old guarding is removed.

Specify alloy or grade, profiles, infill, finish and care. Describe glass guarding as a system including glass and retention; do not choose thickness from a photograph. Request validation of cable or bar configurations. Aluminium and stainless steel mean neither zero maintenance nor universal corrosion immunity.

AEC may fund one side where bilateral stair support is functionally required, subject to conditions. Assessment, quotation and decision precede CNS ordering. This is not general balcony funding; contact AEC before commitment.
