Bespoke furniture or flat-pack: compare for your room

List objects, dimensions, loads and access. Compare internal depth, shelf spacing, door swing and passage in front. Equal-width bookcases can have different capacities. An irregular corner does not automatically require bespoke work; assess what modules and trim can achieve.

Flat-pack combines standard dimensions. Bespoke defines project dimensions and details within proposed technical limits. A hybrid may combine standard carcasses and specific fronts or junctions. Assign responsibility for interfaces, fixing and warranties of modified parts; hybrid is not always cheaper.

Record a dated quote or basket, tax, delivery, assembly, adaptation, fixing, finishing and disposal. For self-assembly, note tools and time you can commit without arbitrarily assigning a professional rate. Linear-metre prices are insufficient when height, depth or equipment differ.

Ask which hinges, runners, fronts and fixings remain replaceable, with references and ordering conditions. IKEA offers parts and services on its French site: serial furniture need not always be replaced at the first defect. This does not guarantee every part or Luxembourg availability; verify the actual product and service.

For furniture covered by its instructions, IKEA stresses anti-tip fixing suited to the wall. Check substrate, loads and fixings in each option. Solid-wood weight, alcove placement or craft production does not replace stability design. Follow instructions and have uncertain cases assessed by the installer.

The Commission lists sourcing, product life, repairability and emissions among furniture label criteria. Request actual-product evidence rather than natural, local or handmade labels alone. In a multi-year comparison, separate known costs from care and replacement scenarios; undocumented lifespan cannot establish a long-term financial winner.
